The band went through several lineup changes, with Stanley and Simmons remaining the only original members. The original and best-known line-up consisted of Stanley (vocals and rhythm guitar), Simmons (vocals and bass guitar), Frehley (solo guitar and vocals) and Criss (drums and vocals). Kiss released their self-titled debut album in February 1974. The album was commercially successful and charted at number 87 on the Billboard 200. The album received a gold certificate from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipping 500,000 copies in the United States. Kiss released four singles from the album: "Deuce", "Strutter", "Cold Gin" and "Rock and Roll All Nite". Kiss was well received by music critics. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic gave the album four stars out of five, calling it a "solid debut". He praised the band's "brisk energy" and "fierce guitar work". Robert Christgau gave the album a B+
