Condition of vinyl records

Here you can find a summary of the status of the vinyl records we list on our website. We grade records according to Goldmine Standard. The grading always consists of two parts, namely the record grading (first) and the cover grading (second). Specifications (number of hairlines or specific defects) can be also often found in the note next to the record detail. Our English translation of the Goldmine Standard can be found below.

Mint condition

M

Perfect in all respects, probably still sealed in original foil. Certainly unplayed.

Near mint condition

NM

The record is in perfect condition, no defects affecting the listening. Probably has not been played more than once, maybe never. The surface is still glossy, without scratches, at most with small hairlines caused by removing the record from the inner sleeve. The outer sleeve bears no more than light signs of use, no corner wear, price stickers or labels.

Very good plus condition

VG+

Played record in very good condition, probably with hairlines or a tiny scratch. It may be slightly bent. All defects are cosmetic and the record should play cleanly even in the parts between songs. The cover may be slightly darkened, faded, or have minor corner scuffs. It will not be taped or water damaged.

Very good condition

VG

Playing board in good condition, but with significant wear and without original gloss. May have a number of hairlines and scratches that can be felt when run over with a fingernail. Noise or occasional flaking may be noticeable between songs and in quieter passages. It should not skip. The cover may be lightly scuffed, have a bent corner or light edge wear.

Good condition

G & G+

Record with significant surface noise and many scratches, still playable. Cover may be ripped or with stains.

Poor and fair condition

P & F

Record in unplayable condition, warped, cracked. Cover torn, incomplete.
