Deep Purple is a seminal British rock band formed in Hertford in 1968. They are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical approach has changed over the years. The band's line-up has included many members over its history, but the classic line-up consisted of Ian Gillan (vocals), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Jon Lord (keyboards), Roger Glover (bass), and Ian Paice (drums). Deep Purple gained widespread popularity with their groundbreaking albums such as "Deep Purple In Rock" (1970) and "Machine Head" (1972), which included hits like "Smoke on the Water," "Highway Star," and "Child in Time." Their sound was characterized by powerful guitar riffs, classical influences, and dynamic organ playing. The band has gone through multiple hiatuses and reunions, and despite numerous line-up changes, they have continued to perform and record new music. Deep Purple was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016, a testament to their influence and legacy in the world of rock music.
