Four guys from Birmingham went into the studio for a day and recorded an entire album, and it was the debut for the producer in that role as well. It's hard to believe, but this is where heavy metal was born. The reissue of Black Sabbath's debut album on 180g vinyl. Famous music journalist Lester Bangs quoted, "It sounds like Cream, only worse" - referring to Black Sabbath's debut. When the album was released in 1970, the press didn't give it much credit. It was only years later that its quality was acknowledged, and Rolling Stone magazine revised it to "the album that hippies have for breakfast." In any case, the band remembers the 1969 recordings fondly. They recorded - by their own admission - for just twelve hours, and still managed to order a beer in the pub in the evening. Tommy Iommi's guitar playing was influenced by the fact that his fingertips were missing in an accident, while Ozzy Osbourne was inspired by the literature of R.R. Tolkien or H.P. Lovecraft when writing lyrics.
