Uriah Heep's fifth album in a delayed vinyl reissue with gatefold cover. "The Magician's Birthday", first released in November 1972, shows a band that has matured in a very short time. "The Magician's Birthday" is loosely based on a short story written shortly before recording by Ken Hensley, the band's guitarist, keyboardist and songwriter. Alongside the single "Sweet Lorraine", one of the band's best-known songs, the ten-minute title track stands out, with Mick Box performing a lengthy guitar solo. "The Magician's Birthday" was the second album by the Byron/Box/Hensley/Thain/Kerslake lineup and shows the band to be more skilled and playful than ever before.
