Before Status Quo switched to hard rock, their sound was more psychedelic. Their second album, 1969, is impressive proof of this. The group around guitarist Francis Rossi, who is still a member today, was formed in 1962 but didn't perform as Status Quo until 1967. Prior to that, they had performed as "The Scorpions", "The Spectres" and "Traffic". Bob Young was first involved in the film Spare Parts. Roadie became the band's songwriter and is considered the unofficial fifth member of the band.
