"Physical Graffiti": the reissue of Led Zeppelin' s number six is out now

Led Zeppelin's double album "Physical Graffiti" was released on February 24, 1975. The remastered version comes out almost to the day on the 40th anniversary of its first release. The "40th Anniversary Edition" of "Physical Graffiti" continues to be reissued under the auspices of Jimmy Page. Almost all of the band's LPs have become legendary, but Led Zep's sixth studio album still holds a very special place. Fans remember this double album as particularly monumental with tracks like "Kashmir" and "Trampled Under Foot".

"Physical Graffiti" continues the reissue approach established last year. The Led Zeppelin double album will be released in several versions on CD and vinyl. In addition, deluxe editions and super deluxe editions have once again been assembled. As with the previous five albums, the "Physical Graffiti" reissue includes a companion disc or LP of outtakes for the deluxe editions. These date back to the time of the album and give an insight into the creation and development of the songs.

"Physical Graffiti" was the first album that Led Zeppelin released under their own Swan Song label. Thanks to pre-orders, it reached platinum status and went to number one on the album chart immediately after its release. "Bron-Yr-Aur" is a tender acoustic Led Zep classic, "Trampled Under Foot" is the funkiest number, "Custard Pie" is the rockiest track, and "Kashmir" is an exotic solitaire among the album's gems.

Led Zeppelin gave the album the title "Physical Graffiti" to indicate the physical exertion this double album entailed for them. The recording process was prolonged because they were exhausted from the many tours in the previous years. They originally recorded eight long numbers that offered too much material for a normal LP and too little for a double album. So they came up with the idea of adding unreleased tracks from the sessions to the previous albums. "Physical Graffiti" thus contains songs that were recorded between July 1970 and February 1974.

The high quality of the Jimmy Page-led remastering is evidenced by the 2014 reissue of Led Zeppelin's first five albums, and Page anticipates that the current reissue will be released on CD and LP. For that reason alone, the original analogue studio tapes are mixed differently than they were then. It makes the familiar Led Zeppelin classics sound new and different. Listeners' opinion is unanimous: New, different and better.
