What initially seemed like a fiasco rose like a phoenix from the ashes: despite disastrous circumstances, Jethro Tull's sixth studio album A Passion Play reached number one on the US charts and defined the progressive rock sound of the 1970s. The legendary album is now out on 180g vinyl, remixed by Steven Wilson. After Benefit (1970), Aqualung (1971) and Thick As A Brick (1972), JJethro Tull rode a wave of popularity. So in 1973, for the first time in their five-year career, Jethro Tull went into the studio with an unchanged line-up - and again with a clear division of duties. Founding member and bandleader Ian Anderson wrote his songs on acoustic guitar, flute and, this time, saxophone, and guitarist Martin Barre, bassist Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond, drummer Barriemore Barlow and keyboardist John Evans created the perfect setting for Anderson's compositions. After the first recording session at the Château d'Hérouville in Paris ended in disaster, Jethro Tull decided to set aside the hour or so of material recorded up to that point and write an entirely new album. Thus was eventually born "A Passion Play", an album that evolved into a 45-minute prog rock monument with complicated rhythms, complicated lyrics and - well - complicated everything. And - it became one of Jethro Tull's most impressive albums: it sparked heated debate among fans and immediately went to number one in the US charts. The legendary 1973 concept album mixed by Steven Wilson! The now-released remastered edition of "A Passion Play" features a new stereo mix of the album on 180g heavyweight vinyl.
