In 1975, ZZ Top released their fourth album, which offered listeners half live performances and half new studio recordings. The result was a combination that propelled the trio into the Top 10 and earned them a Top 20 single. The first side of FANDANGO!!! is live and was recorded on April 12, 1974 at The Warehouse concert hall in New Orleans. The performances are described as "captured as they happened - hot, spontaneous and honestly delivered without the aid of studio tricks", which is pretty much what you would expect from a live album. Although technically there are only three tracks, the third track is the so-called "Backdoor Medley", which consists of "Backdoor Love Affair", Willie Dixon's "Mellow Down Easy", the second part of "Backdoor Love Affair" and John Lee Hooker's "Long Distance Boogie". On the flip side are six studio tracks, the most well-known of which is the aforementioned single "Tush", which reached the Top 20, but the first single from the album, "Heard It on the X", has also received more than a little acclaim over the years. Upon its release, FANDANGO! reached No. 10 on the Billboard 200, which - in addition to the hit single - helped keep the band in the spotlight. Not coincidentally, this is still the case today.
