ZZ Top: Tres Hombres DLX version on vinyl LP in deluxe edition. This particular edition was published in Europe in publishing company Warner Bros. Records on 23. May 2014.
The Texans sound very determined, straightforward and gritty on their third album, originally released in 1973, making this album, including the hit single "La Grange" (#41 on the US Billboard charts), one of their best and strongest. Even the opening "Waitin' For The Bus" and "Jesus Just Left Chicago" are marked by an endless groove, though they still have clear blues roots. "Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers" is another classic that's already more hard rock. (Gibbons and Hill's joint vocals here are amazing). By "Masters Of Sparks" at the latest you think you've finally arrived at hard rock, but here the blues shines through again - accompanied by a "singing" slide guitar. The ballad "Hot, Blue & Righteous" sounds almost tender, whereupon it continues with southern rock and just a little bit of Lynyrd Skynyrd with "Move On Down The Line". "Precious And Grace" has a strong riff and a great bridge and along with "La Grange" is probably the strongest track on the record. On the other hand, the following "Sheik" sounds almost fragile and playful, before "Have You Heard" is a bouncer.
