"Various: Jesus Christ Superstar" is a rock opera album that was first released in 1970. The album is a musical dramatization of the last week of the life of Jesus Christ, beginning with his arrival in Jerusalem and ending with the Crucifixion. It was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Tim Rice. The work is notable for its contemporary rock music and for not being performed on stage prior to its release as an album, a reverse of the usual process for musicals at the time.
