The Doors : Morrison Hotel is the fifth studio album by the Doors, released on January 5, 1970. The album was recorded in early 1969, after the band had returned from a long tour of Europe. The album reached number four on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album's title is derived from the name of the Morrison Hotel in Los Angeles, where the band stayed while recording. The album's lead single, "Roadhouse Blues", was released in October 1969 and reached number twenty-eight on the Billboard Hot 100. The second single from the album, "Waiting for the Sun", was released in February 1970 and reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100. The Doors : Morrison Hotel was generally well received by music critics. In a contemporary review for Rolling Stone magazine, Greil Marcus stated that the album showed the band at its "most creative and consistent", and praised the "dense, hard-hitting" music. In a retrospective review, Bruce Eder of AllMusic called the album a "classic" and said it shows the band "at the peak of their powers". The Doors : Morrison Hotel is considered one of the band's best albums ever.
