Released in 1972, the concept album is about a promiscuous and drug-addicted rock star whose life was marked by. At the intersection of hard rock and glam rock, pop and art rock, Bowie tells the story in a total of eleven songs, including the single "Starman" and the title track "Ziggy Stardust". The musician recorded the album with his producer Ken Scott at Trident studios in London. Scott had already produced the film Honky Dory (1971). Bowie was musically supported on "Ziggy Stardust" by Mick Ronson (guitar, piano, backing vocals, string arrangements), Trevor Bolder (bass), Mick Woodmansey (drums), Rick Wakeman (keyboards) and Dana Gillespie (vocals on "It Ain't Easy"). In the UK, the album reached number five in the sales chart.
