Now on vinyl: Hard Rock History Live On August 16, 1980, the "Monsters Of Rock" festival kicked off for the first time at Donington Castle in Leicestershire, England. It became the most important hard rock and heavy metal festival of the 80s and early 90s. The first headliners on stage were Rainbow. Two years ago, Rainbow: Monsters Of Rock - Live At Donington 1980, a live recording of this legendary performance, was released on CD and DVD. A limited numbered edition double LP including CD will be released in 2019. Approximately 35,000 people attended the first edition of Monsters of Rock. In addition to Rainbow, Judas Priest, Scorpions and Saxon also performed. Rainbow celebrated the end of the "Down To Earth" tour. The band also performed at Donington for the last time with Graham Bonnet on vocals, Ritchie Blackmore on guitar, Roger Glover on bass, Don Airey on keyboards and Cozy Powell on drums. Bonnet and Cowell left the band a little later. Rainbow played songs from their current album that night, including "All Night Long", "Eyes Of The World" and "Lost In Hollywood", and classics like "Stargazer" and "Catch The Rainbow". Blackmore, Airey and Powell also performed virtuoso solos. A huge fireworks display awaited at the end of the concert. Blackmore eventually smashed his guitar and lit the amp on fire. This performance was in many ways a historic event. On the album "Rainbow: Monsters Of Rock - Live At Donington 1980" this story is retold. Now finally on vinyl.
