The album Long Live Rock 'N' Roll, released in 1978, was Rainbow's fourth studio album. The album was commercially successful, reaching number six on the UK Albums Chart and number eight on the US Billboard 200. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded it a platinum record for shipping one million copies in the United States. The album's lead single, "Since You Been Gone", was a commercial success, reaching number five on the UK Singles Chart and number fifteen on the US Billboard Hot 100. The second single from the album, "I Surrender", reached number three on the UK Singles Chart and number 20 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The album Long Live Rock 'N' Roll received mixed reviews from music critics. Eduardo Rivadavia of AllMusic gave the album three stars out of five, stating that it "was not as groundbreaking as its predecessor, but it was still a strong effort". He further stated that "the highlights of the album were the aforementioned hard rock anthems, as well as the more progressive and atmospheric tracks". However, Paul Suter of Kerrang! magazine gave the album five stars out of five.
