Kiss : Animalize is the tenth studio album by American hard rock band Kiss , released on September 13, 1984. The album was recorded at The Power Station in New York City with producer Michael James Jackson. It was the first album to feature drummer Eric Carr, who replaced Peter Criss in 1981. Animalize was a commercial success, reaching number six on the Billboard 200 chart and selling two million copies in the United States. The album spawned four hit singles, "Heaven's on Fire", "Burn Bitch Burn", "Lick It Up" and "All Hell's Breakin' Loose". The most successful single was "Heaven's on Fire", which reached number seven on the Billboard Hot 100. The album Animalize was praised by music critics. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic called it "an outstanding hard rock album" and "one of the band's best records". Robert Christgau said of it that it was "hard and heavy, pedal steel and rhythmically inventive". Animalize was voted the ninth best album of 1984 in the annual Pazz & Jop poll of American critics, and was included in the book The 100 Best Albums of the 1980s.
