The time lapse since then and the status of the debut album "In the Court of the Crimson King" as a classic piece of rock history led to the original King Crimson line-up - although only lasting a year - earning their position as the best new English band of the time through their live performances. Epitaph (Volumes I and II) features recordings made for the BBC just prior to the album's release, as well as recordings made at the legendary Fillmore West in San Francisco during the American tour in November/December 1969.
