"Muddy Wolf At Red Rocks" is also the beginning of a series of concerts Joe Bonamassa plans to honor his idols. He's playing with a different band than usual and expanding his blues palette with new material. Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters were major figures in Chicago blues. Howlin' Wolf was characterized by his deep, raspy voice. Muddy Waters is even considered the father of the modern Chicago blues, which subsequently sparked the rise of the British blues. The circle comes full circle here, as British blues is a formative component of Bonamassa's work. At the "Muddy Wolf At Red Rocks" concert, Joe Bonamassa and his musicians always played a 30-minute set of the work of Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters and a half-hour of his own repertoire. The band for this event consisted of Anton Fig (drums), Michael Rhodes (bass), Reese Wynans (piano, Hammond organ), Lee Thornburg (trumpet, horn arrangements), Ron Dziubla (sax), Nick Lane (trombone), Mike Henderson (harmonica) and Kirk Fletcher (guitar). Joe Bonamassa himself was impressed by the "Muddy Wolf" concert. He says it was the concert of his life and the largest audience he has ever played in front of.
