It almost seems that Ian Anderson and his band have some catching up to do. After all, Jethro Tull's new album is due out just 15 months after their top ten hit "The Zealot Gene". Perhaps this is the English band's way of catching up on a 20-year hiatus before their comeback in 2022.

Either way, all Jethro Tull fans can look forward to "RökFlöte", the 23rd LP in the band's history. It is quite folk-oriented and contains twelve new songs between three and five minutes in length. It seems that the time of the fussy progressive epics is gone once and for all. Originally, band leader Ian Anderson had even planned a mostly acoustic album with flute music. However, his interest in Norse mythology and the concept of Ragnarök ended up turning "rock flute" into "RökFlute" and also forming a loose concept of lyrics.

In terms of content, many of the songs deal with the mythology of Old Norse paganism. For example, the track "Hammer On Hammer" is about the thunder god Thor, and the first single from the year before, "Ginnungagap", is about the primordial giant Ymir, from whose body the gods created the earth and sky.

Appropriate, fantastic material for a prog rock band like Jethro Tull. Ian Anderson relied on the same team for the musical realization as on the previous album. Only German guitarist Florian Opahle is no longer on board.

In addition to the standard CD and LP versions, "RökFlöte" will also be released as a limited vinyl edition in blue (exclusive to jpc) and as a limited deluxe edition on CD and LP. These deluxe versions include detailed liner notes, a CD with demos and a Blu-ray with Dolby Atmos, 5.1 surround sound and an alternate stereo mix by Bruce Soord (The Pineapple Thief), as well as an extensive interview with Ian Anderson.
