Crest of a Knave was the fourteenth studio album by British rock band Jethro Tull . The album was recorded in early 1987 at Bearsville Studios in New York State and was produced by Ian Anderson and Neil Dorfsman. It was the band's first album released since the death of bassist and founding member John Glascock in 1979. Crest of a Knave was met with mixed reviews from music critics, but was commercially successful, reaching No. 20 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 38 on the Billboard 200 in the United States. The album was awarded a British Phonographic Industry (BPI) silver certificate for selling over 60,000 copies in the UK. The album's lead single, "Steel Monkey", was a commercial success, reaching number 13 on the UK Singles Chart. The second single, "Farm on the Freeway", was less successful, reaching number 73 in the UK Singles Chart.
