Tiersen's enchanting soundtracks for "The Wonderful World of Amelia" and "Good Bye Lenin!" for solo piano. French multi-instrumentalist Yann Tiersen (*1970) has established himself as an outstanding contemporary composer in just a few years with his soundtracks for the films "The Wonderful World of Amélie" (2001) and "Good Bye Lenin!". (2003), Tiersen has made an excellent name for himself as a contemporary composer. Tiersen's melancholic sonic language with influences from pop music, chansons, folk and minimal music has long since been domesticated outside the film community and works well without the screen. Back in 2005, Jeroen van Veen, "the leading exponent of minimalism in our time", recorded some of Tiersen's compositions for his "Minimal Piano Collection. Volume I-IX" (Brilliant Classics 8551). Now the Dutch pianist presents the complete soundtracks for the films Amélie and Lenin for piano, one of the most original and successful minimalist music cycles of recent years. Following albums of works by Einaudi (BCL 9452), Jacob# TV (BCL 94873) and Yiruma (BCL 95069), van Veen again expands his repertoire with unusual, non-conformist material. The recordings were made in November 2014 in the superb acoustic surroundings of Van Veen Productions' Studio 1 in Culemborg, the Netherlands; the booklet contains notes written by van Veen himself.
