In November 1981, Black Sabbath's eighth studio album Mob Rules was released. The album was recorded at the Record Plant in Los Angeles, California and mixed at Criteria Studios in Miami, Florida. It was produced by Martin Birch. The album charted at number 28 on the Billboard 200 and number six on the UK Albums Chart. The album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and sold more than 500,000 copies in the United States. The album's title track was released as a single and reached number 26 on the UK Singles Chart. Mob Rules features the song "Die Young", written by singer Ronnie James Dio and guitarist Tony Iommi. The song was inspired by the death of John Lennon and was written after his murder. The album cover was designed by artist Lynn Curlee. It has a demon painted on it, with the album title and band name written over it. Mob Rules is considered one of Black Sabbath's strongest albums and is cited by many heavy metal bands as an influence.
