John Garth

John Garth

John Garth (1721–1810) was an English composer, organist, and cellist. He is best known for his contribution to the music of the 18th century, particularly in the North East of England. Garth's most notable work is his set of six cello concertos, which were published in 1760. These concertos are significant as they add to the relatively small repertoire of cello concertos from that period. They have been praised for their lyrical qualities and the skillful writing for the solo instrument.
