Tommy Falcone turned himself into Phil Spector's handyman in a basement in New Jersey. From 1962 to 1970, he founded and ran Cleopatra Records, discovering and mentoring young talent from the Garden State, writing songs and producing wild studio effects, and quitting his job to promote it all himself. Falcone, trained as an accordionist, had a vivid imagination and an all-encompassing approach to the genre that manifested itself in bands like The Centuries, The Tabbys, Johnny Silvio, The Inmates, Bernadette Carroll, The Hallmarks, Vickie & the Van Dykes, The Shandillons, Eugene Viscione, The Shoestring and more. Cleopatra became a time capsule of all manner of '60s pop styles - garage rock, psychedelia, surf, girl groups, soul, novelty, exotica, even crooner - a kaleidoscope of sound in search of the eternally obvious hit.
