The latest Soul Jazz album "Nigeria Soul Fever" is the first journey to the richness of Nigerian music of the 70s. The guide is Bill Brewster, author of "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life", who also wrote the liner notes. This double CD and triple LP is packed with Afro-funk, disco and boogie, and delivers an impressive collection of diverse West African sounds. Although a handful of musicians such as Joni Haastrup, T-Mac and Christy Essien have found success outside of Africa, this is essentially a collection of killer tracks that have never made it outside of their country of origin. Recordings by artists like Don Bruce & The Angels, Akin Richards & The Executives, Angela Starr, Jimmy Sherry & The Music Agents are hard to find and especially hard to find rarities. The recordings were made at a time when trade restrictions prohibited the export of recordings from Nigeria. While new musical movements such as American soul, funk and disco were coming into the country and leaving their mark, the local scene remained isolated. This album follows the just-released collection "Nigeria Freedom Sounds" by Soul Jazz from the 1960s and continues with a reissue of the rarities album "T Mac Night Illusion" featuring Nigerian hits from the 1980s.
