"Garden State" is a tragicomedy written and directed by Zach Braff and starring Natalie Portman, Peter Sarsgaard, Ian Holm and Braff himself, released in 2004. The film revolves around Andrew Largeman (played by Braff), a 20-year-old actor and waiter who returns to his hometown in New Jersey after the death of his mother. Braff based the film on his real-life circumstances. "Garden State" was commercially successful and continues to gain a loyal fan base. The music used in the film was personally selected by Zach Braff. He commented on his selection by saying: "I ended up putting together a mix CD of all the songs that were the soundtrack of my life when I was writing the script." A number of indie rock artists have contributed to the film's music, including The Shins. In one of the first scenes, Sam (Natalie Portman) hands Andrew headphones with The Shins' New Slang and says, ""You've got to listen to this song - it'll change your life, I swear." Writer, actor and director Braff received a Grammy Award for "Best Film Soundtrack Compilation". The album sold more than 1.3 million copies and went platinum. Ten years after its original release, it is being released on vinyl for the first time ever! One of the printed inner sleeves features Braff's handwritten note, which was written in 2014 just for this vinyl release.
