Fame Northern Soul - CD

Known for producing some of the best Southern soul music from their studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, FAME has been successful in any kind of music. The young writers and musicians sought to emulate the Motown sound as well as the innovative Stax sound. This CD highlights the Southern temperament with club classics such as Clarence Carter's "Looking For A Fox" and Arthur Conley's "I Can't Stop; No, No, No," but the label was also able to make a name for itself in the dance tracks "Keep On Talking" by James Barnett and "Everytime" by Linda Carr. They also managed to emulate the big city soul sound of New York and Los Angeles with tracks like Jimmy Hughes' 'I'm Getting Better' and June Conquest's 'Almost Persuaded'. When more productive sounds emerged in the '70s, they were more than adept, such as with George Soule's 'Midnight Affair' (released at the time by Sandra Wright) and a string of hits for Candi Staton. Speaking of Candi, Ace's access to the FAME vaults revealed some amazing music and her 'One More Hurt' and Spencer Wiggins' 'I'm At The Breaking Point' proved to be huge dance hits when they were finally unleashed on eager fans earlier this decade. Those were the most significant discoveries, but we've released about 300 previously unheard FAME tracks and there's dance gold among the 25 or so compilations we've released over the last eight years.
