Product information In 1966, a new impulse spreads like wildfire on the sidewalks of New York's Spanish Harlem. "This is a boogaloo," it could be heard. It brought African Americans and Latinos together like no musical genre before. The energy of boogaloo has seduced young people from diverse backgrounds far beyond the U.S., especially in the cradle of the Caribbean: Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominica and as far away as the French West Indies. When boogaloo took over the West Indies, this new wave discarded hierarchy and custom. On the dance floors of the most prestigious nightclubs, such as La Bananeraie in Martinique or La Cocoteraie in Guadeloupe, musicians took to the boogaloo and came up with somewhat unorthodox interpretations, and it is this that gives this compilation its personality and pizzazz. The compilers spent more than three years digging up the best recordings of Creole boogaloo. The glamour of the restored sound of these old 7" vinyl records is matched only by the fervor of the interpretations. "Sauvagement sexy", wildly sexy, as Gabby Siarras sings.
