"Disintegration" is the eighth studio album by English rock band The Cure, originally released on 2 May 1989. The album marks a return to the introspective and dark gothic rock style that the band introduced in the early 1980s. As he approached his thirtieth year, singer and guitarist Robert Smith felt increasing pressure to follow up the band's pop success with more sustained work. The Cure recorded Disintegration at Hookend Recording Studios in Checkendon, Oxfordshire with co-producer David M. Allen from late 1988 to early 1989. The album was included in Rolling Stone magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and contains several hit singles, including the song "Lovesong".
