Radiohead: OK Computer version on vinyl 2LP in Standard edition. This particular edition was published in Europe in publishing company XL Recordings on 1. July 2016.
The album has been described as a futuristic art-rock record, reminiscent of the worlds of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World and George Orwell's 1984. The environments of these novels are devoid of organic life, dominated by machines and controlled by a malevolent government. Humans are manipulated by what technology would have them believe, and are therefore completely invisible to many of life's pleasures and freedoms. The band has traveled the world and interacted with other cultures, believing that the modern world is doomed to a similar demise. At OK Computer, they admit their fears. OK Computer seamlessly blends electronic instruments with the original Britrock sound without stifling it, and the result is a spacey soundscape. The album was recorded in an unoccupied mansion, St Catherine's Court, owned by Jane Seymour. At the time, the band took inspiration from Can, DJ Shadow, Miles Davis, Ennio Morricano, REM and the Beatles' White Album. They used new instruments such as the chimes and mellotron and created string arrangements. They used the recording studio as a science lab and recorded vocals and instruments in different rooms and hallways throughout the night. The remoteness of the villa allowed them to record at any time, without having to worry about scheduling, and to create a new, larger-than-life character.
