A&M/Interscope Records and Universal Music announce the November 11th release of Sting's new album 57th & 9th, his first rock-pop album in more than a decade.57th & 9th showcases a wide range of Sting's musical and songwriting styles, from the fierce biker-vocal "Petrol Head" to the majestic "50,000" and the gritty guitar-driven first single "I Can't Stop Thinking About You." The album was recorded with Sting's longtime collaborators Dominic Miller (guitar) and Vinnie Colaiuta (drums), with studio contributions from drummer Josh Freese (Nine Inch Nails, Guns n' Roses), guitarist Lyle Workman and San Antonio-based Tex-Mex band The Last Bandoleros. The 57th & 9th album was created impulsively after a great geyser of inspiration and recorded in a few weeks. "It came together very quickly, very spontaneously," says Sting. "I always have a goal to surprise myself and the people I work with. A few hours ago, Sting gave the world premiere of "I Can't Stop Thinking About You" on the Kevin & Bean show on KROQ, Los Angeles' flagship alternative rock radio station. The single is now available digitally.The album, produced by Martin Kierszenbaum, is named after the Manhattan street corner that Sting walked past every day to the studio in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood where the album was recorded. Sting notes that if there is a common theme in the lyrics of 57th & 9th, it is the theme of travel and movement. That's most evident in the autobiographical "Heading South On The Great North Road" and in "Inshallah," a humanitarian song about the global refugee crisis, told in the first person. "It's about searching and traveling, about the journey, about that power of the unknown," Sting says, continuing, "On this album, we come up with something that's energetic and noisy, but also thoughtful.
