The British shoegaze band Slowdive was formed in 1989 by Nick Chaplin (bass), Rachel Goswell (vocals, guitar), Christian Savill (guitar) and songwriter Neal Halstead (vocals, guitar). Production of Slowdive's debut album began shortly after Halstead managed to convince Alan McGee - head of Creation Records - that the band had amassed enough songs. In fact, they didn't have nearly enough songs. In the studio, they began feverishly writing songs, experimenting with sounds and cannabis. The result was the song "Just For A Day", originally released in 1991.
