SABATON is now celebrating its 20th anniversary. What would be the most appropriate way to celebrate this great milestone - while setting our goals for the future? Of course, there is only one way: to launch a ninth rocket into the heart of the heavy metal world. In other words, SABATON's new album - another concept album from the treasure trove of fascinating military history - is done and we couldn't be happier about it, says SABATON bassist and songwriter Pär Sundström - and continues, "The title of our new magnum opus is 'The Great War', and in its rich musical and lyrical exploration we delve into the dark and bloody atmosphere of the First World War. This desperate war of 1914-1918 shook the entire planet and had devastating consequences that are still being felt today. The First World War was also supposed to be the war to end all wars. Today, unfortunately, we know better..." If you're familiar with SABATON's epic sound, you know that these gentlemen are no newcomers when it comes to joyously diverse and catchy heavy metal. Not to worry: the epic-sounding "The Great War" takes everything to another level. "The contrast between the brutality of a merciless war and the heroic sacrifices of many people is reflected in the essential songs - both in the compositions and the lyrics," says Sundström. "Sabaton's strongest and most polished album since 'Carolus Rex'."
