Rock icons R.E.M. are releasing a reissue of their eighth studio album Automatic For The People on November 10 to mark 25 years since its release. The album features classic hits and a bonus track Photograph featuring vocals by Natalie Merchant, which was created under the supervision of original producer Scott Litt and original sound engineer Clif Norrell.

Automatic for the People is considered by critics and fans alike to be one of the band's best albums and is also ranked among the most successful albums of the 1990s. In terms of comprehensive music history, Rolling Stone magazine ranked it among the 500 best albums ever. Upon its release, it ranked number one in Britain and number two in America. In total, it sold over 18 million copies, and the album also received two Grammy nominations. Thematically, the album touches on mortality and dying and the fragility and beauty of life associated with it. Many of the songs on the album have become hugely popular hits - including Everybody Hurts, Drive, Nightswimming Or Man on the Moonwhich even gave its name to a Miloš Forman film. The orchestral arrangements were contributed by former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones. Interestingly, when Kurt Cobain, lead singer of Nirvana and good friend of Michael Stipe, committed suicide, this album was found in his player.

The four-disc version contains twenty band-selected tracks made during the recording sessions and two completed but unreleased tracks Mike's Pop Song a Devil Rides Backwards. The two-disc version includes a recording of a single 1992 concert at the 40 Watt Club. The deluxe version includes a 60-page book filled with never-before-seen photos and new interviews with band members.

R.E.M. are one of the best-selling artists of all time and helped define an era musically. That's why they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
