Michel Legrand has won countless awards for film music throughout his career. From the Oscar to the Golden Globe to the Grammy, he has won virtually every award the industry has to offer. Early in his career, he released an album in 1958 for which he recruited more than 30 of the finest jazz musicians of the time. Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Ben Webster, Phil Woods and other New York musicians agreed to record with Legrand his idiosyncratic arrangements of standards like "Django," "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" and "Night In Tunisia." In three different groups, they recorded a totally unusual album with Legrand Jazz at Columbia studios.
