Old hands, new dimensions Udo Dirkschneider needs no introduction to metal fans. The German musician and singer with the scratchy voice belongs to heavy metal like a lid to a pot. He started his career in the 70s in the band Accept and later formed his bands U.D.O. and Dirkschneider. Now, in 2021, he presents a new project: Dirkschneider & The Old Gang. "Arising" is the title of their first EP. The name "The Old Gang" says it all in a way, because besides Dirkschneider the band consists of several "old hands" of German metal history: Peter Baltes (bass; ex-Accept), Stefan Kaufmann (guitar; ex-Accept, U.D.O.) and Mathias Dieth (guitar; Sinner, U.D.O.). In addition to the longtime bandmates, Udo's son Sven Dirkschneider (drums; U.D.O., Dirkschneider) and singer Manuela Bibert are also part of the group. Although the new project follows the tradition of its predecessors musically, listeners can expect something completely new: "If you thought you already knew all the essentials, you are mistaken. Dirkschneider & The Old Gang started with a sensational music video that only vaguely hinted at the full scope. So keep your eyes and ears open: it's going to get really exciting from now on!" reads a statement on Udo's website. Dirkschneider & The Old Gang recorded three songs for "Arising": "Face Of A Stranger", "Every Heart Is Burning" and "Where The Angels Fly" were released earlier in the year. They will be collected on a maxi CD in August. Record lovers can take their pick: the 12ʺ single will be released in a limited edition on gold vinyl, white/black marbled vinyl, clear/black marbled vinyl and red vinyl.
