David Gilmour released his fourth solo album About Face in 1984. The album featured a number of guest musicians, including Pete Townshend, John Paul Jones and Stevie Wonder. The album was a commercial success, reaching number two on the UK album chart and number six on the US Billboard 200. The lead single from the album, "About Face", reached number 20 on the UK singles chart.
