★ (Blackstar) is the twenty-fifth and final studio album by English singer David Bowie , released on 8 January 2016, two days before his death. The album was recorded in New York City between 2014 and 2015. ★ (Blackstar) was Bowie's first album to be released on his own label, ISO Records, and the first to be produced by Tony Visconti since 2003's Reality. The album was met with a favorable critical response, with many reviewers calling it Bowie's best work in decades. It was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2016 and won the 2017 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. The album ★ (Blackstar) was posthumously awarded the Brit Award for Best British Album in 2017. The album's title track was released as a single on 20 November 2015 and was accompanied by a music video directed by Johan Renck. The second single, "Lazarus", was released on 17 December 2015 and the third single, "I Can't Give Everything Away", was released on 11 February 2016.
