Black Sabbath : Born Again is an album by the metal band Black Sabbath , released in 1983. It is the only album to feature vocalist Ian Gillan and drummer Bev Bevan, who were previously members of the rock band Deep Purple. The album was commercially unsuccessful and critically panned. Born Again was recorded at the Record Plant studios in Los Angeles, California. The album was produced by Black Sabbath and executive producer Don Arden. It was the first Black Sabbath album to be recorded on a drum machine, which was used on the tracks "Disturbing the Priest" and "Digital Bitch". The album's lead single, "Trashed", was released in July 1983. It was followed by the album's release in August. The album reached number 68 in the UK Albums Chart. Born Again was critically panned. In a contemporary review for Rolling Stone magazine, music critic Kurt Loder stated that the album "sounds like a rejected Deep Purple album" and that Gillan's vocals are "undoubtedly the worst thing about it". Eduardo Rivadavia of AllMusic said in a retrospective review that the album is "notorious" and that it is a so-called "notorious" album.
