Simple Minds is a Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 1977. Originally known as Johnny & The Self-Abusers, the group changed their name to Simple Minds, drawing inspiration from a lyric in David Bowie's song "The Jean Genie." The band's classic lineup included lead vocalist Jim Kerr, guitarist Charlie Burchill, keyboardist Michael MacNeil, bassist Derek Forbes, and drummer Mel Gaynor. Simple Minds gained international fame in the 1980s with a string of successful albums and are perhaps best known for their hit single "Don't You (Forget About Me)," which was featured in the soundtrack of the John Hughes film "The Breakfast Club" and became a defining anthem of the era.
