Australian Experimental Percussionist and Improviser

Tony Buck (b. 1962 in Sydney) is an Australian drummer and percussionist. He is a founding member of cult Australian band The Necks with Chris Abrahams and Lloyd Swanton. After graduating from the New South Wales Conservatorium of Music, he became actively involved in the Australian jazz scene, often touring with visiting international artists such as Vincent Herring, Clifford Jordan, Mickey Tucker, Branford Marsalis and Ernie Watts, as well as locals: Paul Grabowsky, Catholics, Sandy Evans and Dale Barlow. In the 90's in Japan he formed a band Peril with Otomo Yoshihide and Kato Hideki. Few years later Buck moved to Europe, where he got involved in many projects, including the development of new 'virtual' MIDI controllers at Steim in Amsterdam. Tony Buck has played, toured or recorded with a great array of avant-garde, electroacoustic, experimental, free improv, jazz, electronic, noise and classical artists, incl. Jon Rose, John Zorn, Keiji Haino, Wayne Horvitz, Ground Zero (3), Peter Brötzmann, Nicolas Collins, Tenko, Tom Cora, Phil Minton, Machine For Making Sense, Ne Zhdall, Ex, Hans Reichel, The Little Red Spiders, Subroto Roy Chowdhury, Clifford Jordan, Kletka Red, Han Bennink, Shelley Hirsch, Palinckx and others. He participated in many projects, ensembles and bands, incl. Alessandro Bosetti's Trophies, Franz Hautzinger's Regenorchester XII, Heaven And, Frank Schulte's Switchbox, Paul Brody's Detonation Orchestra.
