New Order is an influential British band formed in 1980 by the remaining members of Joy Division after the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis. The band consists of Bernard Sumner (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Peter Hook (bass, backing vocals), Stephen Morris (drums, keyboards), and Gillian Gilbert (keyboards, guitars). New Order pioneered a fusion of post-punk with electronic and dance music and became one of the most critically acclaimed and highly influential bands of the 1980s. They are known for their unique sound that combines gloomy post-punk with synthesizer-driven new wave and dance beats.
