Ferdinand David

German Violinist and Composer

Ferdinand David (1810–1873) was a German violinist and composer, primarily known for his connection with Felix Mendelssohn. David worked closely with Mendelssohn during the latter's tenure at the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, where David served as concertmaster. He was a respected violinist of his time and contributed significantly to the violin repertoire. His compositions include works for violin and piano, among which are the "Sechzehn Charakterstücke" (Sixteen Character Pieces) for violin and piano.
