Corrosion Of Conformity

Corrosion Of Conformity

American Heavy Metal Band

Corrosion of Conformity (often abbreviated as C.O.C.) is an American heavy metal band from Raleigh, North Carolina, formed in 1982. The group has undergone multiple lineup changes throughout its career, with guitarist Woody Weatherman being the sole constant member. Corrosion of Conformity started as a hardcore punk band but later expanded their sound to incorporate sludge, stoner rock, and southern metal elements. Their 1991 album "Blind" marked a significant shift in their style, introducing more heavy metal influences and garnering them wider attention. The follow-up album "Deliverance," released in 1994, is often considered one of their most successful records; it featured the hit single "Albatross" and saw the band moving further into a more mainstream direction with a stoner rock and southern metal sound. In 2000, they released "America's Volume Dealer," which continued their evolution with a mix of sludge metal and hard rock elements. Over the years, Corrosion of Conformity has built a loyal fan base and has been influential in the metal genre, contributing to the development of subgenres like sludge metal and crossover thrash.
