Big Beat's series of reissues devoted to the Seeds culminates with the compilation "Pushin' Too Hard: The Seeds," a companion soundtrack to the acclaimed rock documentary tracing the rise and fall of these '60s garage icons. Directed by GNP Crescendo's Neil Norman and written and produced by Ace's Alec Palao, "Pushin' Too Hard. The story, which often takes place away from the centre of the action, is told through extensive interviews with band members and their entourages, period footage, rare photographs and memorabilia, and insights from Seeds fans such as Iggy Pop, Bruce Johnston of the Beach Boys and the Bangles. Although it features the expected signature tracks from the Seeds catalog, such as "Can't Seem To Make You Mine," "Mr. Farmer" and, of course, the title track, Pushin' Too Hard: The Seeds also includes many rarities on the side, such as an early Sky single under the name Ritchie Marsh, a rousing snippet of the band's 1967 Hollywood Bowl performance and, as a nod to the Seeds' friendship with Muddy Waters, a historic live recording from the venerable bluesman. Fans will be pleased to know that several of the band's own songs are presented here in alternate takes or different versions, providing further evidence of the driving, hypnotic brand of rock 'n' roll the Seeds pioneered. As always, detailed liner notes and many rare illustrations complete the package. The release of the soundtrack coincides with the first European screening of Pushin' Too Hard: The Seeds, scheduled for Spring 2019 in London.
