"The Prom (Music from the Netflix Film)" features music from the star-studded Netflix adaptation of the successful Broadway hit of the same name, written by Bob Martin, Chad Benguelin and Matthew Sklar. Directed by Ryan Murphy, it stars Meryl Streep, James Corden, Nicole Kidman, Kerry Washington, Andrew Rannells, Keegan-Michael Key, Ariana DeBose and Jo Ellen Pellman, who re-recorded all 16 songs from the musical and brought them to the camera. Ryan Murphy, known for hit TV shows "Glee" and "American Horror Story" among others, says of the soundtrack, "Music is the moment when everyone in the world dances together. The feeling is like a worldwide celebration of the idea and hope for a different, better world!" In the musical film adaptation of the tragicomedy, two snobbish Tony Award winners Dee Dee Allen and Barry Glickman experience a severe setback when their joint musical project about First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt completely flops. Together with two fellow actors, they want to prove their charitable commitment and come across lesbian teenager Emma Nolan. She in turn wants to go to the big dance with her friend Alyssa, but that would lead to scandal in conservative Indiana. Together with the cast, the teens look for a way to get to the prom together. The story is full of differences between young and old, humorous misunderstandings, the ideal of enjoying life to the fullest and the search for one's own self. The music embodies exactly these emotions in the typical mania of a modern Broadway musical. Anyone who has seen Glee will love this music and film!
