Dave Bartholomew himself says he has composed more than 4,000 songs. The songs he has released on his own have not been as successful, so his tremendous work as a producer, arranger and composer for other artists should be highlighted. For Fats Domino alone, he produced over 50 singles with total sales of about 65 million records, 22 of which were gold-certified. Dave Bartholomew became a talent scout for Imperial Records in 1949 and later became a producer, arranger and composer. Fats Domino's first released single was "The Fat Man" with its famous boogie piano intro. The record became one of the few million-selling R&B records after its release in January 1950. Bartholomew himself went on to make a number of records for other labels. Among them were Decca Records and King Records. Probably his best known track is "My Ding-A-Ling" for King Records. The humorous and ambiguous call-and-response song later experienced a renaissance in the form of cover versions by other artists. Chuck Berry made it immortal as a million-selling hit in September 1972. His contract with Imperial Records also ended in 1963. He then briefly worked for Trumpet Records or Mercury and in 1967 started his own label. In 1991, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a non-artist.
