Now, for the first time, the 26 volumes of the series are published in a high-quality limited edition. Shaping the Century Vol. 1 collects key works from the period 1900-1949 on 28 CDs, providing a condensed overview of the enormous diversity of musical output and the imaginative and subtle sonic culture of the period. All the recordings are from the Decca and Deutsche Grammophon catalogues and feature major artists including Claudio Abbado, Pierre Boulez, Riccardo Chailly and Leonard Bernstein. In addition, each of the 26 albums includes detailed information about the works, which perfectly introduces the composers and illuminates the relevant historical context, as well as a chronicle of musical premieres of the 20th century.
