"Rock'n'roll" in the Congo and the rediscovery of the Cuban group Son In the early 1950s, Kinshasa, then Léopoldville, was a musical melting pot that was fed by many Congolese ethnic groups. Only the re-importation of Afro-Cuban music focused the passion on its own almost forgotten heritage. In fact, slavery was only two generations ago and Cuban music sounded very familiar. People copied the style of Son pianists using the Likembe thumb piano, which was once itself the model for the creation of the Son sound. Thanks to Radio Congo Belge, the "new" sound spread throughout Africa. This lovingly crafted double CD "Roots of Rumba Rock" is now dedicated to these early days of Congolese "rock'n'roll". This double CD is a re-release of two long deleted singles and is accompanied by a 44-page booklet in French and English. Roots of Rumba Rock" was compiled by Vincent Kenis, who was already responsible for the two "Congotronics" samplers.
