Product information Boogaloo is an infectious and poorly defined dance that dominated American dance recordings in the mid-1960s. It was a joyous place where young black and Latino youth met and made music. All previous Boogaloo compilations focused on the Latin aspect, "Let's Do The Boogaloo" looks at how the music crossed between the two. The boogaloo craze began in Chicago with a Tom & Jerryo recording, but it proved to have an enduring legacy, with its hit potential lasting from 1965 until 1968 - far longer than any other comparable dance. Our earliest recording - Prince & Princess' infectious "Ready Steady Go," produced by Rolling Stones producer Jimmy Miller - kicks us off with a frenetic beat and Latin horns. It's a perfect boogaloo crossover. Elsewhere, there are big sounds from both the soul and Latin sides of the music. Club classics from names like Hector Rivera and Roy Lee Johnson, and obscurities from The PS 54 School Yard and Shirley Butler. The musical aspects of this compilation come from such far-flung places as Texas and Detroit and Philadelphia and LA, where we find the previously unreleased Bob & Earl Band track 'Boogaloo'. Extensive sleeve notes explain the story of the dance and how the music adapted to it. They link many sources and explain what connects Chubby Checker, Charlie Palmieri, Mongo Santamaria and Jimmy Castor. This is the musical and dance dynamite that brought communities together, and "Let's Do The Boogaloo" is the definitive compilation of the genre.
